Bongo Maffin to reunite?
July 29 2017 – SA BASED Zimbabwean musician and dancehall DJ Jah Seed and Bongo Maffin ex band mates Stone Seate and Thandiswa Mazwai may soon reunite after the group’s recent Castle Lager advertisement, which went well and inspired them to consider a reunion
Seate confirms that he and other members of iconic kwaito group are in discussions over a reunion after 12 years, and details will be communicated as soon as they are available.
The news of the group’s reunion surfaced when the trio and Kalawa Jazmee production boss, Oskido Mldongwa, recently reunited for a Castle Lager advertisement, which went very well.
Says Seate: “I think all of us have maintained relevance and equity in our chosen directions away from the group, while still maintaining personal contact. If we are honest with our art, it will always feel like we never left and the music (old and new) will resonate with fans.”
Though Oskido would not confirm anything, says the group was in talks to make it happen and they seem to be at an advanced stage. “Everyone really enjoyed working together, so now it’s a case of just putting all the pieces together,” says Oskido.
Apparently, a feud between Speedy and Seate prompted the group to split. At the time, Speedy went on to leave both the group and Kalawa Jazmee
Oskido reportedly said there was no bad blood between members of the group. “They are all friends and they like hanging out with each other. The chemistry is still there and they know this is something that fans have wanted for a long time,” he says.
The multi -award winning group shot into the limelight with hits like Kure Gune, Thathi ISighubu among other, with Jah Seed, whose real name is Adrian Anesu Mupemhi, providing some Shona lyrics in their songs.
He also won the 2016 Zimbabwe Achievers Awards, for flying the Zimbabwean flag high in Mzansi. – additional reporting ZimsInSAcom
