Ex Bafana winger Buckley now Amazulu assistant coach

KZN NFD SIDE  AmaZulu have brought in former Bafana Bafana winger Delron Buckley as the assistant coach to Steve Barker.

“We’re pleased to announce that former Bafana Bafana player Delron Buckley has joined us as Assistant Coach,” AmaZulu stated on their Twitter account.

The Durban-born Buckley, now 38, ended his career at Maritzburg United after having spent the bulk of his playing days in Germany with clubs such as VFL Bochum, Arminia Bielefeld and Borussia Dortmund.

He also played at the 1998 and 2002 World Cups and represented Bafana Bafana 73 times in total.

He is now looking forward to working at his home-town club, where he will be hoping to help AmaZulu gain promotion back to the PSL after they were demoted last season.

“I tried to join the club in 2012, and in 2013 I tried again,” said Buckley, who last year attended an international coaching course run by the DFB (the German football association).

“For the third time I applied for the job here and I’m looking forward, and hoping, to bring AmaZulu back into the PSL. It is a team that belongs in the PSL,” he said.

AmaZulu are next in action when they host Santos on Sunday, the Durban-based club currently six points shy of the play-off zone. – ANA
