FRANKFURT – GERMAN league chief Reinhard Rauball says he called FIFA president Sepp Blatter to ask him to resign over the awarding of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar.
Rauball tells this week’s Kicker magazine he “personally called Mr. Blatter some time ago and urged him to resign.”
Rauball did not say what Blatter’s response was.
Rauball says Blatter, however, was not solely responsible for the decision to give the tournament to Qatar since FIFA’s executive committee had 22 members.
This month, Rauball suggested that UEFA, the European football federation, may leave FIFA if the full report into the bidding process for the 2018 World Cup, awarded to Russia, and the 2022 tournament, is not published. -Â Sapa-AP
