ABOUT 807 drivers were arrested in Johannesburg for “driving under the influence of alcohol” over the Easter holiday, the Johannesburg metro police said on Tuesday.
Spokesman Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said another 121 motorists were arrested for speeding during the same period.
“The drivers were arrested through various operations held across the city during the long Easter weekend,” said Minnaar.
“Hundreds of motorists were stopped and informed about the dangers of speeding, reckless overtaking and consumption of of drugs or alcohol when or before driving a motor vehicle.”
The arrested motorists will appear in various courts in Johannesburg Tuesday.– ANA
