January  21 2017 –  AN INTENSIVE  crime-fighting operation by various law enforcement agencies in Pretoria on Friday (yesterday) led to the arrest of 15 people, including illegal immigrants and  the seizure of a gambling machine.

Police also  confiscated 234 560ml of liquor, say Pretoria police.

“Police clamped down on two illegal liquor outlets during [Friday’s] operation, which was aimed to creating a climate of safety and security within our policing area by increasing police visibility,” says Captain Augustinah Selepe.

She said 15 people were arrested  for being illegal immigrants,  possession of drugs and drinking in public.

“We also had 16 taxis confiscated by Gauteng traffic police and the Tshwane metro police department. A total of 525 persons and 175 vehicles were searched during the operation,” said Selepe.

As the crime blitz kicked off, Tshwane West South African Police Service (SAPS) cluster commander Maj-Gen Daniel Mthombeni welcomed 60 newly trained police constables after they successfully completed the basic police training programme. – ANA
