A ZIMBABWEAN woman living in Johannesburg appeared in a court in Cape Town (today) on Monday, following her arrest last Thursday at the Cape Town International Airport, for the alleged possession of the drug “tik” worth R1 125 million.
Emilia Julio Magumame, 34, appeared in the Bellville District Court, before magistrate Clive Linden, who scheduled a bail application for July 29.
This follows the arrest, a few days ago of two Cape Town based Zimbabweans who were arrested by the Hawks for allegedly being involved in an illegal card scam.
The prosecutor, Melanie Paul, told the court that the State would oppose the application.
The bail application would be launched in another court, before magistrate Ronald Riekert. Magumame faces a main charge of dealing in the drug.
As an alternative, she is also charged with possession of the drug.
She was arrested at the airport about 8.39am on July 14 with 5kg of tik.
According to a police report, she had been on a flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town. The report said border police attached to the Syndicate Crime Investigations Unit, conducting random searches at the Cape Town airport, found the drug in her suitcase, hidden between clothing. –ANA
