Kaizer Chiefs fans give late Zimbabwean supporter historic send off
by Shadreck Maririmba
December 8 2018 – IN A RARE show of solidarity between South Africans and Zimbabweans in Mzansi. Kaizer Chiefs fans gave Zim Kaizer Chiefs supporter George Chatsika in Emalahleni, Johannesburg on Thurday this week, leaving the whole city mesmerized.
Kaizer Chiefs supporters in Emalahleni thronged the city clad in their team’s regelia, singing and dancing before Chitsaka’s body was taken back home to Zimbabwe.
Chitsaka was a well known, die hard, Kaizer Chiefs supporter.
One of the supporters could be heard saying George had become a brother to them and this shows that Africa is for everybody. Zimbabweans have become our friends over the years.
” We don’t care whether he is Zimbabwean or what all we know is he is our brother and as South Africans we need his family to know that we cared and loved George very much. We used to go with him as supporters whenever our team is playing and he loved Kaizer Chiefs further cementing our relationship with him.
Chatsika was killed in a car accident in Emalahleni on the 1st of this month when according to eye witnesses, the vehicle he was travelling in with a friend rolled several, after failing to negotiate a turn/
The friend who is also a Zimbabwean was admitted at Pretoria Hospital where he is said to be in criticial condition, while Chitsaka died on the spot.
Fellow Zimbabweans from all walks of life danced and mourned George from afternoon till midnight until his body left for Zimbabwe.
Relationships between SA and other black Africans have been strained over the past few years, with regular flare ups of xenophobic violence against non SA citizens. – ZimsInSA.com
