Lesotho PM wins narrow election victory
JOHANNESBURG -Â LESOTHO’s Prime Minister Thomas Thabane has won a parliamentary election with a narrow majority that prevents him from governing alone, results published Wednesday showed.
Thabane’s All Basotho Convention (ABC) took the most votes in half of the 80 constituencies in Saturday’s poll.
The main opposition Democratic Congress (DC) won 37 constituencies.
Two parties belonging to Thabane’s coalition government, the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) and the Basotho National Party (BNP) took two and one constituency respectively.
The elections were aimed at restoring stability after the army was accused of a coup attempt on August 30. -Â Sapa-dpa
