A man was shot dead in an attempted hijacking in Durban’s southern suburb of Lotus Park on Wednesday night.
Police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident, saying it took place on Lotus Drive at about 7pm.
Two gunmen had tried to hijack the bakkie, but the driver resisted and drove off. He had, however, been fatally wounded but managed drive up Lotus Drive before veering off the road and crashing into a gate post.
Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha said that when paramedics arrived at the scene, they found the man slumped over the steering wheel.
Botha said he had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was already dead by the time paramedics arrived at the scene.
Zwane said the two gunmen fled and that he could not provide further details. Detectives were still at the crime scene at the time of going to press. — ANA
