MANCHESTER United are set to be without striker Wayne Rooney for next week’s crucial Champions League match
against Wolfsburg because of an ankle injury.
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal said on Friday that Rooney will miss the weekend Premier League clash with West Ham.
And the Dutchman said Rooney is unlikely to recover for the Wolfsburg match, a game United have to win to be assured of a place in theknock-out stages.
“The injury of Wayne Rooney is more heavy than we thought,” Van Gala told a press conference on Friday.
“It’s a nasty injury. It’s been getting worse but we have to let him
train to make the ankle stronger, that’s very important.
“I cannot say (how long he will be out) because the doctor shall
decide that with Wayne of course. He is training well in the
Rooney suffered the injury last weekend in the 1-1 draw against
Defender Marcos Rojo will also be out for an extended period after dislocating his shoulder in training, while Ander Herrera will also miss the West Ham game.
“It’s his shoulder (Van Gaal said of Rojo), the same as last year, in
a training session. It’s very unfortunate, also in the position of
Luke Shaw, so I have a great problem.” – ANA
