MDC T fires Khupe and allies
March 23 2018- THE rift between MDC T president Nelson Chamisa and one of the deputies Thokozani Khupe, has culminated with the Party’s National Council resolving to fire the latter and her allies, namely national organising secretary Abednico Bhebhe and suspended spokesperson Obert Gutu.
Khupe and Chamisa have been locked in a vicious power struggle, which resulted in equally nasty spats of violence, within the party as both fought to take over as Party leader, following the death of founding president Morgan Tsvangirai last month.
In a statement released late this evening signed by deputy national chairperson Morgan Komichi, the Party’s National Council that Bhebhe and Khupe who have parliamentary seats under the Party be recalled, immediately.
“On VP Khupe the National Council noted the efforts at engagment and the fact that khupe remained stubborn, obudarate, intransigent and spurned all party efforts to address her grievances as she continued to hold illegal meetings and partake in unconstitutional actvities putting the party to disrepute,” reads the MDC T statement.
The Party also says its National Council has accepted National Chairperson Lovemore Moyo’s resignation. Moyo resigned from the party yesterday, citing constitutional irregularities, possibly from Chamisa’s ascendancy to presidency ahead of Khupe who had been the first vice-president before Tsvangirai appointed Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri as co- vice presidents, two years ago.
