Mpumalanga cop busted for bakery robbery
June 26 2017 – A Mpumalanga police constable has been arrested after him and three other suspects were caught on the scene of a business robbery by private security.
On Saturday night, seven men tried to rob a bakery soon after closing time while the owners were cashing-up. A quick response from the shops private security provider led to the chase and capture of four of those suspects before they could reach the nearby getaway vehicle.
“It is devastating that while the police in the country are fighting the scourge of Trio Crimes, we find that police members are involved”, said Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma.
Zuma’s comments come after several initiatives have been put into place at a national level to curb the rising trend in residential, business and automotive robberies collectively called Trio Crimes.
In 2016 alone, over 20 000 cases of residential and business robberies took place.
The arrested officer, who was found using his service pistol as well, will surely be made an example of as investigations continue to identify and arrest the three suspects who managed to evade capture. – iAfrica
