April 18 2017 – CHIPPA United coach Dan Malesela says he is baffled by his side’s slump in form and not sure what is the cause.
The Port Elizabeth-based side are just three points above the relegation zone after losing to Kaizer Chiefs in Nelspruit on Saturday – their ninth successive game in the Absa Premiership without a win.
“I’m not one who believes in bad luck or who believes in myths but I really have to find out what is wrong with the team because I don’t see too much that is wrong with the playing side. What I see is wrong is a bit of misfortune,” Malesela said after the match.
“I’m basing this on the number of injuries we are getting at the club. Every week I have to move somebody through injury or something of the sort.
“Just when it looks like we are getting our full team back, somebody gets injured. Unfortunately we have now lost Buyile Sali and it also looks like Justice Chabalala and Daniel Akpeyi might be out for the next game.
“But we just have to soldier on with what we have. I just have to find solutions to the challenges we are having.”
The Chippa coach felt his side could have gotten a point out of Saturday’s game.
“I think, based on what I saw, we probably could have gotten a draw against Chiefs. They had the better of the first half in terms of chances and we came up with a solution of some sort and in the second half we really put pressure on them.
“I told the players the game would be decided by one goal.” –ANA
