SA had a thousand fewer people in employment during the second quarter than in the three preceding months, Statistics South Africa said on Tuesday.
“Employment decreased by 1 000 quarter-on-qaurter, from 8,945,000 in March 2015 to 8,944,000 in June 2015,” the statistics service said.
It said this was largely due to decreases in the manufacturing, transport, construction and business services sectors.
Employment in the mining and electricity industries remained unchanged for the second quarter.
The figures marked a year-on-year decrease of 1.8 percent between June 2014 and June 2015.” – ANA
