SAFA gives Bafana coach Mashaba the red flag
BAFANA Bafana’s head coach Shakes Mashaba has been suspended with immediate effect by the South African Football Association (SAFA).
Mashaba will not join the team on their trip to Mozambique as SAFA has deemed it necessary to employ disciplinary measures after a regrettable incident at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
SAFA released a statement confirming that assistant coach Owen Da Gama will take charge of the team in the international friendly match against Mozambique on Tuesday.
SAFA says they will not be making any further comments on this matter.
It is alleged that Mashaba criticised his employers SAFA, after Saturday’s win against Senegal in the 2018 World Cup qualifier in Polokwane accusing them of lack of support.
It is still unclear what charges Mashaba is facing, but he was also seen having an altercation with an SABC presenter before a post match interview.
In recent months, Mashaba has had an acrimonious relationship with the South African media accusing it of negative reporting. – SABC
