Two arrested and two escape after Jozi shoot-out
Two men were arrested and two others escaped after a shoot-out with police officers in Johannesburg on this morning.
Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) spokesman Wayne Minnaar said the incident happened at 10.30am in Church Street, Mayfair.
“A JMPD freeway unmarked unit observed a white Nissan Navara going through a red traffic light along Main Reef Road,” he said.
The officers pursued the vehicle and as soon as the four men realised they were being followed they sped away.
“The vehicle then sped off, bumping a pedestrian, and collided with a panelvan.”
A shoot-out ensued and two men managed to escape while two others were arrested.
“The one [arrested man]was taken to hospital due to injuries sustained in the incident,” he said.
The other was being held at Langlaagte police station.
The men were allegedly linked to a hijacking and robbery in Diepkloof and Brixton. A firearm, which was reported stolen in Akasia, was allegedly found in their possession, Minnaar said.
