Violence erupts again in Limpopo’s Vuwani

VIOLENCE  erupted again last night (Wednesday)  in Vuwani in Limpopo, with protestors took to the streets targeting passing vehicles, including a police van pelting passing motorists with stones.

“Three vehicles and one patrol vehicle from police were damaged by people throwing stones at the vehicles in Vyeboo area,” said police spokeswoman Colonel Ronel Otto.

Otto said no injuries were reported and police were monitoring the area.

Vuwani hit headlines earlier this year as residents went on the rampage following their losing a high court bid to have their area remain under the Makhado municipality.

More than 20 schools were gutted as residents vented their anger at the decision by the Municipal Demarcation Board to include their area under the newly created Malamulele municipality.

Earlier, this week their application at Constitutional Court was also dismissed.

Community leader Nsovo Sambo said earlier that protests would continue, despite the reversals in court.

Sambo further said residents would not vote in the upcoming local government elections.

“The community is not happy, we cannot be forced to accept a decision taken by others.”  – ANA
