Young Warriors prep for SA as Mighty Warriors date Ivory Coast
AS Zim’s U23s prepare to play against SA at Rufaro stadium in Harare this Sunday, in the CAF Championship, first leg qualifier, as Mighty Warriors face Ivory Coast for their 2016 Rio Olympic qualifier against Ivory Coast on the same day. This is after a day of boycotting a session in protest over unpaid bonuses and allowances.
After a meeting with Zifa president Cuthbert Dube who is said to have promised to settle the debt, which dates back to last year’s African Women Championship first round qualifier against Botswana in March and may amount to $1 500 a player, the players turned up at Rufaro Stadium yesterday morning and took part in their final training before their scheduled departure for Abidjan this morning.
The team is expected to stop-over briefly in SA.
The winner of this two-legged encounter will advance to the final qualifying round where they will face either Ghana or Cameroon for a place at the Rio 2016 Olympics finals.
