Zanu PF wins Mwenezi East
April, 9 2017 – DESPITE growing discontent with the ruling party, and serious infighting within the former liberation war movement, the party won resoundingly in today’s by elections with a whopping 18 470 by its candidate Joosbi Omar.
NCA’s Welcome Masuku came second with 482 and FreeZim candidate Turner Muhango only managed to get 386.
Kudakwashe Bhasikiti of the Zimbabwe People First, now National People’s Party, withdrew from the by election alleging intimidation of his supporters and vote-buying by Zanu PF.
The ruling party recently won a Bikita West by election .
On 3 February 2017, President Mugabe proclaimed 8 April 2017 as the date for the Mwenezi East by-election to fill the vacancy that arose following the death of the incumbent Zanu PF, Joshua Moyo, on 22 December 2016. – ZimsInSA.com reporter
