Zim govt hires new nurses

April 20 2018 – THE Health Services Board (HSB) and the Ministry of Health and Child Care is inviting applications from qualified unemployed registered general nurses, primary care nurses and similarly retired nurses below the age of 70 to fill nursing posts in the health service.

This comes amid controversy surrounding vice president Constantnio Chiwenga’s decision to fire all striking nurses on Tuesday this week.

Chiwenga fired the nurses after they downed their tools in protest of low salaries and poor working conditions, alleging that their move was politically motivated, responding by firing all the 16 000 nurses.

However reports from Harare say the nurses have told the vice president to “go to hell” and have vowed to continue with their strike while insisting the dismissals were illegal.

In a statement to the ZBC News, the HSB said all applicants should have valid practicing certificates.

The ministry also said in the interim, all members who are on vacation leave, annual leave and nights off should report for duty with immediate effect.

Those who were fired can also apply as new employees, and that they can approach nearest central hospital, provincial hospital and provincial medical health directorate immediately.
