JOHANNESBURG – SA based Zimbabwean journalist Emmanuel Chuma has died
Chuma, a former Chronicle chief reporter died after a year long illness in South Africa.
â€œIt is with a deep sense of loss, sorrow and devastation that the ZUJ family has learnt of the passing on of Emmanuel Chuma,â€ says Zimbabwe Union of Journalists Foster Dongozi.
Dongozi described Chuma’s death as a sad chapter in Zimbabwe’s media industry and a personal loss.
â€œI worked with him at Zimpapers Bulawayo and his death is also a personal loss to those who worked with him at the time,” says Dongozi.
Founder of Â www.zimsinsa.com, Â Patience Rusere, who worked with Chuma at the Bulawayo based Chronicle echoed Dongozi’ sentiments.
“I am shocked at Chuma’s death and still cannot believe it. May his soul rest in peace,” says Rusere.
Dongozi described Chuma as an affableÂ Â journalist who specialised in human interest stories.
Chuma worked for Masvingo Provincial Star and later moved on to Umthunywa, Sunday News and Chronicle in Bulawayo.
Chuma made his last professional move when he settled in South Africa where he became the managing director of the South
African based publication Zim Star.
â€œHe was a diligent, hardworking but easy going colleague who mentored a number of young journalists,” adds Dongozi.
