Zim opposition blasts Malema for Mugabe comments

THE MDC led by Welshman Ncube has described attacked SA’s EFF leader Julius Malema’s comments  exonerating Zim President Robert Mugabe for the country’s economic  and social decline as “sickening” and  showing  “a serious lack of understanding of the Zimbabwean situation or a deep hatred for the people of Zimbabwe.

In a statement released today, MDC’s Secretary for International Relations, Kurauone Chihwayi, says while Malema is entitled to his opinions,Malema is making “inflammatory” statements about issues “he does not have a full grasp of, it crosses the line.”

Media reports yesterday quoted Malema as saying that Mugabe was not responsible for Zim’s economic problems but instead blamed West, who he said because they disagreed with Mugabe were using their economic muscle against the country.
Malema went on to compliment Mugabe who he said really “understood what it mean’t to be African” and could stand up to the West.
But Chihwayi said that he does not understand why Mugabe should be absolved of blame over Zim’s problem as it is Mugabe and his ruling Zanu PF that have been governing the country for the past 34 years.
“The country has been reduced to a vending economy due to catastrophic unemployment while millions of Zimbabweans have fled the difficult conditions to other countries, South Africa included, under President Mugabe’s watch,” says Chiwhayi adding that if Malema alludes that SA should practice democracy, he does not see why this should not apply to other African countries.
“For him to say any other African leader with the exception of South Africa can rule for more than two terms is foolish and should not be coming from of a person who aspires to be a President of a country one day. As MDC we find it quite disturbing that Malema finds it palatable to condemn the rest of Africa to the whims of dictators while fighting against the same in his own country. His statements betray his selfishness, hypocrisy and a blatant disregard for the welfare of the rest of Africa,” adds Chiwhayi. – www.zimsinsa.com reporter
