Zim’s first vice president Muzenda’s widow dies
August 23 2017 – MAUD Muzenda, 88, the ailing widow of late vice president, Simon Muzenda, passed away at a private hospital in the capital, yesterday.
Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo, a former ambassador to South Africa, said the ruling party was “shocked and dismayed” at her “untimely death”.
The struggle heroin’s son, Tongai, said his mother had “not been feeling well” and was in the capital for check-ups with doctors, when her condition deteriorated.
Her husband, Simon, who was Zimbabwe’s first vice president, died in 2003.
Mourners are gathered in Chisipite, Harare. Burial arrangements are yet to be announced, but reports say that her home province Masvingo is lobbying for her to be accorded “national hero status”. – ANA
