ZUJ protests attack of female journo by DeMbare coach

THE  Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) has condemned the attack of a female journalist by newly-appointed Dynamos Football Club head coach, Jorge Paulo Silva while covering the team’s training session in Harare.

ZBC cameraperson, Vivian Bangamo was manhandled by the Portuguese gaffer, who only four days ago had a brawl with the team’s goalkeepers coach, Gift Muzadzi.

Bangamo, who was with fellow journalist, Francis Nyamutsamba when the incident happened, complained of a painful wrist after the attack.

ZUJ secretary general, Foster Dongozi, said the union would soon be making a formal complaint to Dynamos Football Club, the Premier Soccer League and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA).

“We need an urgent solution to the safety and security of journalists, particularly when there are dangerous and cantankerous coaches like Jorge Paulo Silva who attack female journalists,” he said.

The Dynamos coach reportedly banned all his players and backroom staff from speaking to the media in protest over what he claimed was negative media coverage. – ANA
